Outlive Your Life

9/10/2010

Max Lucado has a gift for creating an image in readers’ minds. Throughout the book, I found myself admiring Max's ability to tell a story that captured my attention and illustrated his point beautifully. As with any strength, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing; and if I had one criticism, it would be that the author sometimes took his picture-painting too far as he used multiple paragraphs to extrapolate on a single thought or verse from Scripture. On these occasions, I found myself skipping over whole paragraphs or worse, getting so lost that I forgot the point the author was working so hard to make.

Excessive adjectives aside, the book’s message is strong as the author encourages all of us to outlive our lives by losing ourselves in service to others. I especially like the discussion and action guide printed in the back of the book and recommend it for both individual and small group studies.
