Although
there are many benefits to relocating, one of the downsides is
not being close to friends and family when milestone birthdays
or anniversaries occur. Here is what I did to communicate and
celebrate my husband's 40th birthday.
-
Create a
Website
- I got this idea from my friend Stephanie who worked
with
myevent.com to set up a website for her mother's
birthday. I was surprised by how easy it was to create
Bill's pages. In just fifteen minutes the entire site
was functional. I also like how they allowed me to try
their service without any money up front. Only after a
seven day trial period did I pay the $9.95 monthly fee
to keep Bill's site online.
-
Upload
Photos
- Numerous websites allow you to upload digital photos
to their site and share them with friends and family.
Because I wanted to create one place where family and
friends could visit to see everything I had put together
for Bill's birthday, I uploaded my photos to this site.
They allowed me to create up to five albums with thirty
photos in each one.
-
Create a
Slideshow
- I was hoping that the photo album feature of
myevent.com would allow users to view Bill's pictures in
a slideshow format with music playing in the background.
When I learned through trial and error that this was not
possible, I uploaded my photos to
onetruemedia.com instead. The site allowed me to
upload more than 150 high resolution photos and putting
them to music with transitions was quick and easy. I
especially like that there was no cost to do any of
this. Only when I decided to purchase a DVD version of
the slideshow did I use my credit card to pay what I
thought was a reasonable fee. One last comment about the
slideshow was how simple it was to add a page to Bill's
site that contained a link to view it.
If you are

your family, links to view screenprints of the finished
product are found below.
