"One Thing Leads to Another" is not just the name of a song by The Fix. It's also an organizing fact that is based upon the following principle: If you do the first thing, and the next thing, eventually everything will get done. Read on for an example of how.

One Thing ...

While flipping through a magazine, I saw an advertisement for reusable chord ties from the Container Store. A few days later, I decided to stop and buy a pack while I was running errands. When I got home, I used the new ties to corral a camera cable that was taking up too much space in a drawer. Completing this simple task motivated me to reorganize the entire drawer as I removed chords for a cell phone I no longer used and rearranged other items until enough space was freed up to store our video recorder and camera, which up until this point had no permanent home.

On a role, I decided to tackle the drawer that contained power chords for our laptop and video recorder.

Seeing the inside of my desk look so great prompted me to complete one more task as I cleared off the top. The fifteen minutes I spent processing paper and putting miscellaneous items away. was worth it when the clean surface beckoned my oldest daughter to sit down and do her homework.
